Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

The mission of IBER is to work on theoretical and applied aspects of ecology, conservation of biodiversity and environment in general, and sustainable use of biological resources. IBER ensures reliable scientific information, and provides methodological support to governmental agencies and civil society structures. The institute represents the country at European research arena within its competence.

The priority areas of work include studying structure and functios of biotic communities; setting scientific basis for conservation of living nature, methods for its sustainable management, assessment of ecological risk, quality of environment and impact on it; elaboration of approaches and methods for biodiversity assessment, bio-monitoring and safety systems.

In this particular project the Institute is the leading organization that will provide basic information about grass communities, selected animal species associated with them, and will develop and implement a methodology for their description and evaluation.
